Some people on this webbed site learned what parasociality was and decided that being a fan of a celebrity is abusive

derinthescarletpescatarian

Parasocial relationships are normal and healthy provided you understand what kind of relationship you have and aren’t an entitled dick expecting personal reciprocity from a stranger. Humans like to watch other humans on TV and youtube and read about them and whatever and feel like they know them. So long as you’re aware you don’t actually know them and that they’re dealing with a fanbase/follower crowd and not you personally, and you behave appropriately, you’re fine.

I can’t recommend Shimanami Tasogare enough…

mahoumanga

for one, the manga has some of the best lgbtq+ representation i’ve seen in any manga.

the story weaves together the divergent experiences of gay, lesbian, trans, asexual, and nonbinary characters - both young and old - as they carve out a community for themselves in a Japanese town.

the writing and characterization feels realistic and deeply personal. i should note that the mangaka - kamatani yuhki - identifies as x-gender and asexual.

kamatani’s art is also jaw-dropping.

the level of detail in some panels is incredible.

many panels take on a surreal, dreamlike quality, symbolizing the jumbled emotions of the characters.

and i can’t get over how well the mangaka captured emotion on the characters’ faces.

for anyone looking for a manga that will move you - and push forward representation in the medium - shimanami tasogare is it !

[Tweet from user More Perfect Union @ MorePerfectUS:

EXCLUSIVE: Frito-Lay worker Brandon Ingram was severely electrocuted on the job, disabled and denied medical care. Now Brandon, his wife, and children are being stalked and secretly filmed by company agents. This is the most disturbing Frito-Lay story we’ve covered.]

scallioncreamcheesebagel

30 seconds of the video are embedded, but i recommend clicking the link and watching the full 8 minute video to hear this family’s story. the absolute malice pepsi/frito-lay treated them with is heartbreaking. in order to get approved for long-term disability, brandon ingram had to “prove” he’s “really disabled” by going to countless doctor’s appointments, which he did without insurance after being abandoned by pepsi/frito-lay, plunging him into massive debt.

brandon ingram’s wife, melissa ingram, runs a health and beauty shop called dyan denise beauty which you can find here. you can also find their gofundme here, which has thankfully raised almost $100k at the time of writing.
